200 Essential Tamil Words – Part 14: Ezhu (Wake Up)
Hello! I’m Meenakshi!
In this post from the “200 Essential Tamil Words” series, we’ll introduce the verb:
“Ezhu” (எழு) – meaning “wake up.”
What is “Ezhu”?
“Ezhu” is a commonly used verb in Tamil daily conversation.
It’s used when saying things like “I woke up at 7 o’clock today.”
If Tamil numbers feel difficult, it’s perfectly fine to use English numbers followed by “manikku” (meaning “at ___ o’clock”).
For example, “seven manikku” = “at 7 o’clock.”
This combination of English numbers with Tamil grammar is very common in spoken Tamil.
