200 Essential Tamil Words – Part 6: Poo (Go)

Our first essential verb is “Poo” (போ) – meaning “go.”
This is one of the most commonly used verbs in daily Tamil conversations, so mastering it will greatly improve your fluency!
What Does “Poo” (போ) Mean?
“Poo” (போ) means “go” and is frequently used to indicate movement toward a destination.
🔹 In Tamil sentence structure, verbs usually come at the end of a sentence.
🔹 “Poo” is also used in its imperative form, meaning it can be used to give direct commands like “Go!”
🔹 When specifying a location, the suffix “-kku” (க்கு) is added to the place name, meaning “to [place].”
For example:
✅ “Chennaikku” (சென்னைக்கு) = “To Chennai”

👉 Naan Chennaikku Pooneen (நான் சென்னைக்கு போனேன்)

👉 Neenga Chennaikku Pooneenga (நீங்கள் சென்னைக்கு போனீர்கள்)
✅ “He/She went to Chennai.”
